Nolvadex (Tamoxifen) is not an anabolic steroid but an oral anti-estrogen. Nolvadex prevents :

Nolvadex is a powerful anti-estrogen and a favorite of bodybuilders. It helps avoid the feminization phenomena that frequently occur at the end of an anabolic steroid cycle, such as gynecomastia and fat and water retention around the hips and breasts. In fact, at the end of the cycle, most anabolic steroids aromatize into the hormone estrogen, causing these symptoms to appear. Tamoxifen citrate has the ability to block estrogen receptors, preventing estrogen from acting and causing these phenomena.
